COLLEGE: 2005: Started 10 games at defensive
tackle, including the Orange Bowl…posted 44 tackles (25 solo) on the year,
including a season-high seven in the win over USF…added six tackles in the win
over Florida State in the Orange Bowl…had three sacks and 10.5 tackles for
loss…recovered one fumble and helped the Nittany Lions rank among the NCAA's
best in total defense. 2004: Had a
breakout campaign in which he led the nation with five blocked kicks, tied for
the team lead with three sacks (minus-17 yards) and ranked third in tackles for
loss (8.5 for minus-31 yards)…started in all 11 games and recorded 33 tackles
(16 solo), three pass breakups and forced a fumble as he became a powerful force
in the middle of the defensive line…was a big factor in Penn State ranking in
the top 10 in total and scoring defense and emerging as the nation's only team
to not allow more than 21 points in a game all season…was a disruptive force at
Minnesota, getting his hands on two field goal attempts to go with three
tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup…blocked a field goal in the
season-opening win over Akron, got his hands on a field goal at Ohio State and
added another blocked field goal along with four tackles, a pass breakup and a
tackle for loss against Northwestern…made at least one impact play (recording a
TFL, sack or a blocked kick) in 10-of-11 games…posted a career-high five tackles
and a sack against Iowa and five tackles and two TFL at Indiana…also was among
the first Lions to hit Hoosier running back Chris Taylor on fourth-and-one from
the one to preserve the Penn State win in the final two minutes…was on the field
for 506 plays on defense and special teams, with a season-high 63 plays against
the Hoosiers. 2003: In his first
season at defensive tackle, Paxson played in the final 11 games and earned his
first career start, against Purdue…made very good strides as the season
progressed…made 13 tackles, including 2.5 for losses, with one sack…also blocked
two kicks, a fourth-quarter field goal at Nebraska and a PAT attempt at
Iowa…made three stops against Boston College, including his first career sack,
and two hits on four other occasions…was on the field for 306 snaps on defense
and special teams, topped by 55 plays at Nebraska. 2002: In his first season on the field,
Paxson made good progress, playing in the final nine games of the season…an
outside linebacker, he saw action on special teams and defense, recording one
solo tackle…was on the field for 70 plays. 2001: Redshirted…majored in crime, law
and justice.
Personal: Was a
three-year starter at Roman Catholic High School, playing tight end, defensive
end and linebacker…as a senior, he recorded 76 stops (23 for loss), including 15
sacks, and recovered four fumbles…also made 34 catches for 386 yards and scored
six touchdowns…earned first-team All-Catholic League and all-area honors from
the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News…as a senior,
Paxson was an Associated Press first-team big school all-state selection and
